This striking print which evokes a wild winter's day is inspired by the simple and bold works of the German Expressionists.
Charles Shearer is a good friend of Ingrid, the owner of The Longship. He was born and grew up in Kirkwall, Orkney, before moving to Aberdeen to study at Gray's School of Art. He later went on to study illustration at the Royal College of Art in London.
Charles often draws and paints on location, which he describes a ‘creative interpretation of place and experience.' Charles often contrasts the natural environment with man-made architecture - an ongoing theme throughout his work is 'Human Order within Nature.'
The image was drawn and cut out of a piece of mount board, with a second plate cut to overprint a pale blue.
